Colorizing Your Videos and Pictures

VirgaVideo allows you to change the color of videos and pictures.  This effect is key-framed, so you can have the video fade to red, then to green, and back to normal.  NOTE: This option a special effect, and should not be used as a general purpose way to correct the color of a picture or video.  Instead, use the levels adjustment tool.

To use the color key-framing tool, right click an object and then select Edit...Colors.

The color key-framer (see picture below) is shown, and you can change the picture or video color.

All videos and pictures initially start with a single white key-frame at the beginning (see picture to the left).  A white key-frame means that the object will not be tinted, while colored key-frame means that the it will be tinted to that color.

Clicking a color will insert a new key-frame at the current time.  In the picture to the right, a purple key-frame was added by clicking the purple color while the video time was set to 4.54.

Interpolation: When there is more than one key-frame, the colors will be interpolated (i.e. they will fade smoothly from one color to the next).  In picture to the right, several key frames have been added.  The video will be un-tinted (i.e. a white key-frame) for the first 3.5 seconds.  It will then fade to purple (over approximately one second) and then fade to blue, and then fade back to being un-tinted.

Insert/Remove/Cut: The Insert button will insert a new key-frame at the current time with the currently interpolated color. The Remove button will remove the key-frame at the current time (in the picture above, the currently selected key-frame is highlighted in pink).  The Cut button will insert a new key-frame at the current time with the currently interpolated color, and then remove all key-frames thereafter.

Transparent/Solid: The Transparent button will make the object invisible, and the Solid button will make the object visible.  This can be used to have the object fade in and out of existence, like a ghost.  NOTE: If you want the object to exit the scene by fading away, you should use the object exit function instead.

Background Color: When editing text, you can select the background color.

Undo: All changes you make are saved, and you can undo them by pressing CTRL-Z.  To redo the change, press CTRL-Y.

Multiple Objects: You can edit the color of multiple objects at the same time by selecting more than one:
